Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts southwest monsoon to be “Normal” in 2023. Private agency, SkyMet however projects southwest monsoon to be “Below Normal” at 94% of LPA. IMD’s prediction hangs precariously at the edge of 96-104% of LPA range classified as “Normal”. Spatial distribution will be critical, especially in states of Northwest and Central India, which together account for 66% of agri production.
