Our proprietary Daily Activity & Index Tracker (DART) Index for the Indian economy basis high frequency indicators records yet another strong contraction for the week ending 25th Apr-21. The 10.6% weekly drop comes on the heels of 10.3% in the previous week (revised up from -8.5%) with weakness getting broad based across most indicators. Successive readings of our DART Index indicate a sizeable loss in economic activity in Apr-21 to the tune of ~15-20% vis-à-vis Mar-21 amidst the second wave of COVID and the containment measures imposed.
