India’s southwest monsoon recorded a good start with cumulative rainfall surplus at 18% of Long Period Average (LPA) as of Jun 27th. Post a near timely onset, monsoon has progressed well with 81% of the country’s area receiving normal to excess rainfall. This has allowed a swift advent of sowing with area sown under all Kharif crops (excluding cotton for which data is unavailable) as of 25th Jun-21 standing at 165.6 lakh ha vs. normal/historical area sown over the corresponding period at 148.4 lakh ha. This translates into a reasonably healthy growth of 11.6%
